The department of Statistics is the first ever department that pioneered teaching and learning of Statistics in the state of Meghalaya.

2014
  • Workshop on Censusinfo software and data dissemination of census 2011 jointly organised by the Directorate of Census Operations, Meghalaya, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India & Dept. of Statistics, St. Anthony’s College, Shillong held on 30th July 2014 from 9:15 AM onwards in the Conference Hall of St. Anthony’s College, Shillong. Objective: To give a clear understanding of the workings and functions of the censusinfo software and data dissemination of census 2011. Prof D.K.Saikia, Director of National Institute of Technology (NIT), Meghalaya was the honourable Chief Guest of this event.

  • The Department was awarded by the College Management with prize money of Rs. 5000/- (Rupees Five Thousand only) for the highest number of paper publications in international journals during 2014-15.
  • Dr. Sanku Dey was awarded by the College Management for the highest number of paper publications in national/international journals during 2014-15.
2015
  • The Department was awarded by the College Management with prize money of Rs. 5000/- (Rupees Five Thousand only) for the highest number of paper publications in international journals during 2015-16.

2016
  • Student’s seminar on the topic ‘Growth and instability of pulse and maize production in India during the year 1986-2012’ held on 29th November, 2016.
  • Workshop on computational statistics held on 1st December, 2016 at the conference hall in the college.

    Objective: It is an attempt to improve the teaching and learning of statistics, a need to incorporate technology in the form of computational statistics and also for the benefit of the faculty and students of the college.

2017
  • Workshop on Advanced MS Excel held on the 16th September, 2017 organised by the department at the computer laboratory of St. Anthony’s College for the benefit of the students of the Department of Statistics, researchers and learners of the MS excel programme.

  • The Department was awarded by the College Management with prize money of Rs. 5000/- (Rupees Five Thousand only) for the highest number of paper publications in international journals during 2017-18. A total of 28 papers were published during this period
  • Dr. Sanku Dey was awarded by the College Management for the highest number of paper publications in national/international journals during 2017-18
2018
  • Field visit to ICAR, Barapani, Meghalaya and Rapsang Industries by the 6th Semester students of the Department on the 26th March, 2018 as a part of their academic programme. There was a one hour lecture ‘on the practical applications of deferent tools of statistics particularly in agricultural field’ by the director of ICAR.
  • Sri Bhamiweiroi Lyngdoh, student of 6th semester presented the paper “Quality Assurance in Official Statistics” in the National Statistics day held on 29th June 2018 in the Assam House organised by National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) and received the award for presenting the paper on the above theme.

    The objective of celebration this day is to create public awareness about the importance of statistics in socio-economic planning and policy formulation, to acknowledge the contribution of Prof. Mahalanobis and to pay homage to him.Every year, one particular theme of current national importance is selected for focused discussion and efforts throughout the year aimed at bringing about improvements in the selected area.
  • Dr Sanku Dey was selected as “Conference awards for Scientists” to attend the Joint International Society of Clinical Bio Statistics and Australian Statistical Conference 2018. The conference was held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre from 26th-30th August 2018.
