Established on 18th June, 1934, the Department of English offers BA in English which is one of the pioneer courses. Over the years, it has had various luminaries such as (Late) Mr. Martin Narayan Majaw, (Late) G.G. Swell and the illustrious (Late) Rev. Fr. N. J. Kenny SDB. The Department was the first to have honours at the graduate level and has an inter-disciplinary approach with B.Com, B.Sc, B.A., Business Administration, Mass Communication and Media Technologies. Another asset to the department is the presence of the Language Lab.

The Department of English has two extra-curricular clubs, the Drama Club and the Literary Club.
