TThe official name of the club is “Inland Fisheries Club St. Anthony’s College” (IFCSAC).
About the Club: The Inland Fisheries Club St. Anthony’s College (IFCSAC) was established by the Department of Fishery Science, St. Anthony’s College, Shillong on 1st November 2023. The main purpose is to established a synergetic relationship between the Fishery students and the Fish farmers and to augment the fish production and livelihood through fisheries. The Inland fisheries of India has engaged more than 2.3 crores of people (Male 1.3 Crores: Female 1.01 Crores; 2020-21). Fisheries and Aquaculture remains to be an important source of food, nutrition, income and livelihood to millions of people. Fish is an affordable and goods source of animal protein, a good option to reduce hunger and malnutrition in the country. India is the 2nd largest fish-producing country in the world with 12.12 million tonnes of Inland fish production. The Fisheries sector in India is recognized as a ‘sunrise sector’ in food production. The country has exported fish and fishery products to the tune of 57,586 Crore and contributed 1.1% to the Indian Economy (2020-21). .
