The Department of Fishery Science erstwhile Pisciculture was established in the year 1984 to cater the growing demand of human resources in Fisheries sector. The department was the first to offer 3 years fishery science Honours course in the North East Region of India. Since then there are 35 batches have been graduated and rendering their service in various sectors like Fisheries Department, Govt. of Meghalaya, ICAR- Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Banking sector, defense etc. The department is functioning with the following mandates:

  • Development of Human Resources in the Fisheries
  • To conduct research and extension activities under prevailing agro-climatic condition
  • Organizing seminar, workshop, guest lectures and need based programme for Fishers of Meghalaya
