The Department of Khasi was established on the 6th April, 1935. In these years, Khasi language was taught as a Vernacular subject under the Calcutta University. It was a dream and vision of Rev. Fr. Joseph Bacchiarello, former Principal of St. Anthony's College to upgrade Khasi Vernacular up to the honours level. When the Gauhati University was formed, all the institutions in Meghalaya were affiliated to it. During the Headship of Prof. R. S. Lyngdoh in the year 1960, he along with the help and support of Rev. Fr. Joseph worked hard to convince the then Vice-Chancellor of Gauhati University to upgrade Khasi language from a Vernacular course to Modern Indian Language Elective and later on, to full-fledged honours subject.
- Special Lecture:
On 15th September 2018 the Department organized a Special Lecture for the students of the Department. The lecture was on "Ka Subject Khasi ha ka pule Puthi". Resource person for this lecture was Mrs. P. Syiem, Former Head of the Department of Khasi, St. Anthony's College, Shillong.- Father Joseph Bacchiarello Memorial Inter College Debate Competition:
The Department organized the Fr. Joseph Bacchiarell Memorial Inter-College Debate Competition on 11th August 2018. The motion of the debate was "Ka Jaitbynriew Khasi ka dang bat ia ka La-riti (culture) tynrai".
- Special Lecture:
A Special Lecture on "Khasi Orthography" was organized by the Department on 8th September 2017. Prof. B. War, Former Dean School of Humanities, NEHU, Shillong, was the Resource Person. Faculty and students of the Department attended the lecture.- Father Joseph Bacchiarello Memorial Inter College Debate Competition:
On August 12, 2017 the Department successfully organized the Fr. Joseph Bacchiarello Memorial Inter-College Debate Competition. The motion of the debate was "Ki Kynthei Khasi ki don ka Kyrdan bakyrpang ha ka Jaitbynriew".
- Special Lecture:
The Department has organized a Special Lecture on 21 July 2014 for Honours students. Prof. S. Dkhar, Head Department of Khasi, NEHU, Shillong was the Resource Person. The theme of this lecture was on Khasi Drama. Prof. Dkhar talked on the dramatic theories and on different types of drama. She also highlighted the theme of her drama "U Raikut" which is one of the texts of Honours paper. Besides the students faculty of the Department participated in the programme.- Memorial Lecture:
The Department organized a Memorial Lecture on 'U V.G. Bareh' a prominent Khasi writer, held on 9th August 2014 at Conference Hall, St. Anthony's College, Shillong. Dr. J.S. Shangpliang, Retd. Professor, Department of Khasi, St. Anthony's College and Dr. B.M. Wolflang, Asstt. Professor, Department of Khasi, Lady Keane College, were Resource persons in this lecture. Dr. Shangpliang talked on the topic "U V.G. Bareh bad ka Jingieit Ri" (V.V. Bareh as a Patriotic Writer) and Dr. Wolflang spoke on "U V.G. Bareh kum u Myllung" (V.G. Bareh as a Poet). The programme was attended by teachers and students of the Department of Khasi of our College and also students and teachers of other Colleges. The main objective of this programme is to impart a deeper knowledge on the contributions of U V.G. Bareh to the Khasi Literary world.- Father Joseph Bacchiarello Memorial Inter College Debate Competition:
This Competition was held on 14th October 2014 and the Motion was "Ki Samla ka Juk mynta kim niewkor shuh ia ka sneng ka kraw".
