The Department of Psychology at St. Anthony’s College, Shillong is a newly established academic unit dedicated to the scientific study of human behaviour and mental processes. The department aims to provide a rigorous and well-rounded education that blends foundational psychological theories with practical insights, encouraging students to think critically, conduct research, and understand the complexities of human experience. It offers a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Psychology programme that equips students with analytical skills, ethical awareness, and a firm grounding in both classical and contemporary psychological concepts.

Under the guidance of qualified faculty, the department fosters a spirit of inquiry and prepares learners for diverse career paths as well as further academic pursuits. It also engages students in seminars, talks, and awareness programmes that connect academic learning with real-world issues, such as mental health and wellbeing.

The department has also observed Important days such as World Mental Health Day and Suicide Prevention Day to raise awareness about mental health, promote emotional well-being, and encourage supportive communities. These events remind us that Mental Health is an essential part of overall health and that everyone deserves understanding, care, and access to help.

World Mental Health Day focuses on educating individuals about common mental health challenges, reducing stigma, and encouraging open conversations about emotions, stress, and coping strategies. Activities such as skit, flash mob, and information board help students and staff understand the importance of self-care, empathy, and seeking help when needed.

World Suicide Prevention Day emphasizes the value of life and the importance of early support, kindness, and connection. The observance highlights the importance of awareness, timely help, and supportive environment, that it can bring about a positive difference. It encourages people to look out for one another, listen without judgment, and reach out to trusted adults, Counsellors, or Mental Health practitioners when someone is struggling.

These days are observed to promotes a culture of compassion, resilience, and responsibility. To reinforces the message that Mental Health challenges are manageable, help is available, and no one has to face difficulties alone. Together, we can create a safe and supportive environment that prioritizes mental well-being for all.
